Beverages

While meals make us full and happy, it is never complete without a beverage to cleanse it all down. The Romeo and Juliet relationship between food and beverages are defined since the dawn of civilization itself. Bringing forth many more unique flavours and textures to the table without overcrowding the meal itself, beverages can range from the homey to the exotic.

Recipe #1

Malaysian Spiced Pulled Tea/"Teh Tarik"

Ingredients
-1 tea bag of black tea.
-1 cup of water.
-1 1/2  tablespoon of condensed milk.
-1 tablespoon of sugar.

How To Prepare

1. Like preparing an ordinary cup of tea, first, boil 1 cup of water in a kettle.

2. Next, prepare the cup. Put the tea bag in the cup and pour in the boiling water.

3. As the tea brews, add the condensed milk and sugar. Stir until the condensed milk has fully settled and the sugar has dissolved completely.

4. Now, to make this cup of tea different from any else in the world. Take another empty cup. Pour the prepared tea from one cup to another. Do not place the other cup on the table, instead hold both cups. Increase the height of the pour by each consecutive take. It will take some practice to not spill the drink itself (It is advised that such activities are to be taken seriously and with care. Do it in an open space to reduce the chance of hitting something in the process).

5. It is now ready to be served.

Pulled tea or "teh tarik" is as delicious a drink as it is a beautiful art form. The process of pulling the tea serve no other purpose than to fluff up the tea itself as air is infused along with it as it falls down from one cup to another. A technique mastered by many street vendors and restaurant crews, it has also grown to become a part of their showmanship, a breathtaking performance for customers and passers-by. A classic Malaysian beverage that has become a national icon, Malaysians are known to drink it at any time of the day, compatible with any kind of food imaginable.
